Welcome to the website of the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC). An agency of the State of Georgia, GSFC is committed to increasing access to higher education for all Georgians. Our agency is responsible for administering the HOPE Scholarship and Grant programs and all other state- and lottery-funded scholarship, grant, and service-cancelable loan programs. We also are one of the state’s most competitive lenders of low-cost federal Stafford loans for students and PLUS loans for parents of students.
This website, www.gsfc.org, contains all of the information students and prospective students need to learn about and apply for the state’s financial aid offerings. We realize, however, that financial aid is just one of several major issues to be considered when preparing for higher education. To better meet all the needs of Georgians thinking about college, GSFC has developed www.GAcollege411.org, a new website that is a comprehensive online resource to help Georgians throughout the long process of planning, applying, and paying for college. Launched by Governor Sonny Perdue in February 2005, GAcollege411 helps students explore careers, prepare for the SAT and ACT, compare Georgia colleges, apply for college admission, research and apply for federal and state financial aid.
If you are a high school student, a parent, a counselor, or an adult learner, you will find GAcollege411.org to be a tremendously useful — and user friendly — site. Bookmark the site, and visit it frequently. GAcollege411 is a free service of the State of Georgia, provided by the Commission and many other Georgia partners, including organizations representing Georgia’s public and private colleges and state technical colleges.
GAcollege411 is the latest chapter in Georgia Student Finance Commission’s proud history of helping Georgians achieve their college dreams. Since its creation in 1965 (it was then called the State Scholarship Commission) GSFC has become a recognized national leader in financial aid. Georgia awards its undergraduate students more merit-based financial aid than any other state, and last year alone, we provided nearly $690 million to more than 321,000 Georgia students enrolled in public and private colleges, universities, and technical colleges.
I encourage you to take full advantage of all the financial aid resources offered by our state. This website is your gateway to those opportunities. If you can't find what you are looking for, or if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact us. Our only mission is to help you realize your higher education dreams.
