Two military scholarships available
to Georgia high school graduates
ATLANTA - Georgia's 2001 high school graduates interested in a military career may wish to pursue two military scholarship programs offered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), Executive Director Glenn Newsome said today.
The scholarships are funded by the General Assembly and are designed for graduates "who want a first class education as they prepare for service in our Georgia National Guard," Newsome said.
The two scholarships are:
- The four-year North Georgia College and State University Military Scholarship. The application deadline is January 2, 2001.
- The two-year Georgia Military College State Service Scholarship. The application deadline is February 1, 2001.
Both scholarships cover full tuition costs, fees, housing, meals, books and supplies.
Both programs offer 33 scholarships - three each from Georgia's 11 Congressional Districts - and require a commitment upon graduation of service in the Georgia National Guard.
To be considered for a Georgia military scholarship, a student must be nominated by a member of the General Assembly who represents the district within the U. S. Congressional district where the applicant resides.
More information on the military scholarships is available from Terry Wilfong at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, 706-867-2712, or Tom Webb, Georgia Military College, Milledgeville, 912-445-0751.
