GSFC offers electronic chat night
discussing student financial aid

Financial aid counselors from the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) will be available via an Internet chat room Thursday, Feb. 1, to take questions from students and parents about college admissions and financial aid, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship. The chat night will focus on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which students must file now if they are considering college this fall.

The free service will be available at www.gsfc.org by clicking on the Mapping Your Future link, or at www.mapping-your-future.org.

"High school students and others who are considering higher education have been participating in these chat nights in high numbers, and we hope this continues," said Glenn Newsome, GSFC executive director. "Applying for financial aid can be intimidating and confusing. We hope this event will make the application process easier."

The "FAFSA and Financial Aid" chat night will use the convenience and privacy of personal computers to give advice on the college admissions and financial aid processes. Information about federal and state financial aid programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship program, is available on the GSFC Web site. Also, interested individuals can register for an e-mail reminder of the chat night event. The partner Web site, www.mapping-your-future.org, is sponsored by a group of federal student loan guaranty agencies, including the Georgia Student Finance Commission.

The interactive event will be live from 7-9 p.m. EST. Questions and answers will be archived and available later at www.gsfc.org or at www.mapping-your-future.org.
