New Application Deadlines

Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) administers all of the State of Georgia’s scholarship, grant, and service cancelable loan programs. In almost all cases, students apply for these awards well before the start of an academic term. Sometimes, however, a student is able to apply for the awards after the beginning of a term.

In the past, deadlines for applying for awards have varied from program to program. GSFC is now establishing common application deadlines for all state- and lottery-funded scholarships, grants, and service cancelable loans administered by GSFC. Effective July 1, 2005, a student must file applications — either online or in the college financial aid office — on or before the last day of the academic term or the student's withdrawal date, whichever occurs first, in order to receive an award for that term.

The following programs are affected by the new applications deadlines policy:

Scholarships and grants
HOPE Scholarship
HOPE Grant
Accel
Governor’s Scholarship
Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant
Law Enforcement Personnel Dependents Grant
Public Safety Memorial Grant

Service Cancelable Loans

North Georgia College ROTC Grant
HOPE Teacher Scholarship
Promise Teacher Scholarship
Scholarship for Engineering Education
North Georgia College Military Scholarship
Georgia Military College State Service Scholarship
National Guard Service Loan
Fast-Track Nursing Service Loan

Grace period: Although the policy officially goes into effect July 1, GSFC has established a grace period for the 2005-2006 award year.  Under this grace period, students have until the end of the spring 2006 term to apply for an award for the 2005-2006 award year. The grace period applies to students applying for awards for summer 2005, fall 2005, winter 2006, and spring 2006  terms.
