Georgia Student Finance Commission recognized by State PTA

The Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), has received the prestigious “Friends of Georgia’s Children” award from the Georgia Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The recognition took place during the PTA’s Centennial Gala Banquet on May 6.

According to the PTA, GSFC and other Friends of Georgia’s Children “share our mission to promote the welfare of children in home, school, and community.” GSFC was recognized for its work in providing financial assistance to Georgians going to college and for its sponsorship of GAcollege411.org, a comprehensive online resource that helps students plan, apply, and pay for college.

“We are greatly honored to receive this award, especially since it comes from one of our state’s premiere champions of children and excellence in education,” said Tim Connell, President of GSFC. “Our mission is to promote and increase access to education beyond high school for Georgians, and that makes us a natural partner with the Georgia PTA.”

GSFC was one of several organizations and individuals to be recognized as “Friends of Georgia’s Children” at the banquet. Other recipients of the award included Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, Bernie Marcus, and the United Way. The Centennial Gala Banquet was part of a year-long observance marking the Georgia PTA’s service to Georgia’s students, parents, and schools since 1906.

Since 1965 GSFC has provided more than $9 billion in financial aid to help nearly 2 million Georgians achieve their dreams of higher education. GSFC funds and services 15 different low-interest education loan programs including Stafford and PLUS loans, consolidation loans, and state service-cancelable loans.  GSFC also administers multiple scholarship and grant programs, including the nationally acclaimed HOPE Scholarship Program. Additional information about GSFC products and services is available at www.GAcollege411.org or via telephone at 800-505-GSFC (4732).
